“Dance is music made visible.”— George Balanchine

The strong artistic and personal connection that developed between senior dance majors Yina Ng and Simon Thomas-Train during their four years at Middlebury became the foundation for their senior concert at the Mahaney Center for the Arts in April. They combined original video with dance to explore the themes of family, place, and death in their powerful duet, “The Otherwise Forgotten.”

The two dancers both graduated this year with distinction and highest honors in dance, and both won scholarships to spend six weeks this summer taking classes with world-class artists at the American Dance Festival at Duke University. As members of Big Action Performance Ensemble (Big APE), Ng and Thomas-Train have collaborated in performances and artistic creation since their first year at Middlebury. They were selected to perform at the National Dance Festival in New York City in May 2008, representing the New England Region of the American College Dance Festival Association.
